At school the kids have been learning all year about the body and all the different systems.  They know all about how food goes through the body, what lungs do and everything else.  It has been fun to hear their explanations of how things work.  I overheard Logan one day telling Aubrey and Ethan all about how food goes in your mouth, your teeth smash it up then how it moves through your body and out your anus.  It was so funny- and cool that he knew that.

When they finished learning about the body they had a big celebration to share with parents what they have learned.  They each had a system they had become an “expert” in.  Logan and Aubrey both had the circulatory system.  The kids had a little part they learned and had a sticker on them that said press here.  The parents would come by and “press” the button and the kids would tell you their part they had learned.  They were like a statue at a museum.  It was really fun and the kids did a great job.

Here’s Logan in his statue position.  They told the kids to stay in their position until someone pressed their button.  Logan was pretending to be fishing.  They also weren’t supposed to smile or look at people.  It was funny to see Logan trying not to smile.

Here’s Aubrey in her position.  The kindergarten wasn’t as strict about the position or not smiling.  :)  You can see the picture she drew and the heart she made of clay.  Her teacher told us that Aubrey’s picture of the heart was one of the best in the class.  She did a great job on her part too.

This is Aubrey standing by her body she made.  They had another kid trace them and they colored and glued on each different part as they learned about it.  I asked Aubrey why her body was so much bigger than she is and she said that her friend who traced her made it that way. :)  It was funny to see all the bodies hanging on the walls.

Here’s Logan standing next to his body.  They chose a couple kids from each 1&2 grade class and wrapped them in tape to make a sculpture of their body in action.  Logan is running.  He got to do it because he is respectful, responsible and kind in his class and he has all his work done when he is supposed to.  I’m so proud of him that he was chosen for such a special project.  The tape bodies were cool, but almost a little freaky.  It was a fun night and I’m grateful for the school and how much the kids are learning!
